Thursday, October 28th

Today, we got explored the child size rakes and wheelbarrows. They had so much fun raking up the leaves into piles and then filling up the wheelbarrows to push around the playground.

Stickers are always a huge hit in the classroom. It's another great way to build up those fine motor muscles. It's not easy for little fingers to peel the back off from stickers. We used Halloween stickers to decorate paper pumpkins.

"Look, Ms. Amy, I drew and M!"

Yesterday, everyone had the opportunity to paint a white pumpkin with acrylic paint.

Week of 10/18-10/22

Frankie, decorating the magnet board with the sticky suction toys.

One activity that the Explorers have really enjoyed this week was washing the mini pumpkins and gourds. We talked about how they were all different in shape, size, color, and texture.

Cora and Eleanor, digging and dumping with the construction trucks in the Kinetic sand. Eleanor is saying "Stop, the load is full!".

Greyson, reaching as high as he can to put the last of the Magna-Tiles on the tippy top of his building.

Eleanor and Wyatt, were very proud of the structure they built with the jumbo wooden blocks. Nice teamwork, friends!

Jacob and Sebastian, diggings around in the "construction site", where Sebastian said "Look, we found dinosaur eggs!".

Wyatt, focused really hard on getting those tiny fuse beads onto the tiny tray. This is great fine motor practice. It builds the proper muscles for the pincher grasp that children use when they begin holding writing tools.

On Tuesday, we had a special guest come for a visit from the Brownell Library. Erna, will come twice a month to read stories and play games with us. This week, we listened to stories like "The Tortoise and the Hare" and a few others with animals that are smarter than we think. We learned that you can't judge a book by its cover.

Another great fine motor skill is to hold and use scissor properly. It cant be tricky for little hands but it is a very important skill. Right now, we are just learning to hold them and cut with them properly. As the year goes on, they will gain more control and hopefully be able to follow the lines and cut out shapes.
