Friday, December 11th

This National Geographic Arctic playset has been the perfect for our cold habitat/animal unit. I have attached some pictures of the book that came with it. It describes each animal and a little bit about them. The Explorers have really enjoyed learning about which animals hibernate, migrate, and the animals that thrive in cold climates.

The Explorers made holiday cards for their families using holiday stickers and permanent markers. Stickers are a huge hit in this classroom, we are always looking for more to add to our collection.

During quiet choices, some friends worked on a puzzle together. Nice teamwork, friends!

Using the cardboard blocks, Crosby built a ramp for his animals to slide down.

Harper L. was practicing to write her name. Awesome job!

Ava, Crosby, and Margaret were very excited about he tower they made, complete with two chimney's for Santa!

Another fun project we did this week was making snowflakes. They used small pieces of blue construction paper  and glued it along the lines of a snowflake.

Dwyer did a great job writing his letters using dry erase markers.

Maisie, explored the Arctic habitat bin during free choice on Thursday, morning.

The Explorers had a blast making snowmen and rolling giant snowballs on the playground, this week.

They had just as much fun smashing them!

Marion and Margaret have been working on pumping their legs to swing higher and higher. They have gotten really good!

Morgan had a "marshmallow" on a stick and was going to roast it over the fire.

On Friday, we used watercolor to reveal the secret snowflakes on the paper.

This week, we used sugar cubes to build dens for our winter animals.

Harper L. used magnet manipulatives and sorted them by color and then created patterns.

Our Explores helped us identify and talk about animals that migrate. This was the second part of our hibernate/migrate talk, this week. They already knew so much and had a lot to contribute to our conversations.

We used animals and snow to discover “tracks” left in the snow by animals. Crosby discovered the moose antlers could collect snow! Luca and Liam were doing some great track building this afternoon!
Mae was curious if a seal hibernates or migrates but we discovered a Seal is active all year long.. it doesn’t do either.
